Mathematical Modeling has become an interesting area aspect in modern day scientific problem solving. Rapid development in information technology and computer applications enhances the usage of mathematical theories in practical applications. As a matter of fact, this powerful approach has a high potential for discovering new laws of nature and for extending our current knowledge of science and technology. Solving real-life problems using modeling and simulation can be cheaper, quicker, safer and better than only conducting experiments. It indirectly also helps promote economic development, improve the well being of people and sustain the environment.
Research and Development Centre for Mathematical Modeling (CM2) was set up under the Department of Mathematics to promote multidisciplinary research activities via Mathematical Modeling.
The main focus of the centre is to conduct and coordinate multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary real-life research.
To be the most preferred international research and training center for the study of Mathematical Modeling.
The Centre for Mathematical Modeling will allow University of Colombo to provide quality national leadership in the important and rapidly evolving area, Mathematical Finance.
The main objective of the center is to become a well recognized international research and training center for the study of Mathematical Modeling
