Epsilon Delta Society
The Epsilon Delta Society of the Department of Mathematics was formed in 2005 with the intention of promoting and encouraging a greater awareness of Mathematics amongst the students of the Faculty of Science. Over the past few years the society has undertaken many initiatives in order to achieve this end.
Weekly Math Circle
Weekly Math Circle was formed with the intentions of promoting Pure Mathamatics among the students of The Faculty of Science. The Math Circle meets every Wednesday. Intresting problems that are not part of the University Curculum are discussed at the gatherings.
The Society, started the publication of a magazine, titled “The Axis” in 2008. The Axis is primarily aimed at Advanced Level Mathematics students and freshman in the Physical Science stream. In order to make this possible The Axis, is written at a level so as to be accessible to the average Advanced Level Mathematics student. The Second edition is due for publication this year.
The society is currently conducting a lecture series on Mathematics for the student body of the faculty. The subject areas covered in these lectures include topics such as Actuarial Science and Financial Modeling and try to introduce the students to applications and practical situations encountered in industry.
The Epsilon Delta Society also provides students with Mathematics past papers at cost price.
