META+ is a joint project organized by the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Club under Career Guidance Unit of Faculty of Science and the Leo of Club of Faculty of Science, University of Colombo, which comprises series of webinars and a competition on Digital media marketing in order to give a broad knowledge about the subject to undergraduates of Sri Lankan Universities, and to develop skills required for implementing marketing strategies all the while dealing with the challenges. This event saw over 200+ registered participants.
The project was kick started with the airing of the first workshop on “Introduction to digital media marketing” held on the 4th December at 7.30pm and onwards via Zoom. The resource person for this workshop was Mr. Shawn Moses (Lead digital strategist at Creative-hub and former Lead digital strategist IKON). This workshop enrolled over 100 participants.
The second workshop on “How to make a business plan” was held on the 11th of December at 7.30pm and onwards via Zoom. The resource person for this workshop was Mr. Thuhan Sapumanage (CIMA lecture at Wisdom Business Academy, Founder/CEO at Transpire Lanka). This workshop enrolled over 100 participants.
The third workshop on “Grow your YouTube marketing skills” was held on the 15th of December at 7.30pm and onwards via Zoom. The resource personnel for this workshop were – Mr. Savidu Awishka, Mr. Hashan Uluwitiya and Mr. Amila Dahanayke (Admins of Hype Zone YouTube channel). This workshop enrolled over 75 participants.
META+ Digital Media Marketing Competition Grand Finale & Award Ceremony was held on the 22nd of January 2022 at New Arts Theatre.
Guest of Honor for this event were Leo Rahul Aththanayake; Leo Multiple District Vice President, Leo Gayanga Uththaravi; District President, Leo District 306 A1. Chief guest for this event was Mr. Irosha De Silva; CEO at Creative Hub and special guests for this event being Leo Malinda Ganewaththa and Shawn Moses; Lead Digital Strategist at Creative Hub.
The grand finale and the competition rounds were judged by Prof. Deepthi Wickramasinghe (Co-director of Career Guidance Unit), Dr. Dilushan Jayasundara, Mr. Tuhan Sapumanage, Mr. Irosha De Silva, Mr. Shawn Moses, Mr. Yahiya Salih, Mr. Ashan De Silva and Mr. Thilina Opatha.
The 10 teams out of the registered teams that were selected for the semifinals were Team Wanderling, Team JID Tech, Team Dark Shadows, Team ETC, Team Mind Bogglers, Team Inno Verse, Team Stark, Team Zapatera, Team Outliers and Team Falcon21.
Team Wanderling won the championships and Team Stark and Team Outliers secured their places as 1st and 2nd runner-ups respectively. The teams qualified as finalists were Team Mind Bogglers, Team JID Tech and Team Zapatera.
