Mini - Hackathon 2025
Igniting Insight Through Data and Discovery
The Mini Hackathon 2025 is organized by the Stat Circle of University of Colombo in collaboration with Octave as a part of the 3rd International Conference in Data Science in Sri Lanka (ICDS 2025).
This initiative aims to foster the next generation of data-driven problem solvers by providing a platform for emerging statisticians and data enthusiasts to enhance their analytical thinking, strengthen programming skills, and tackle real-world challenges using innovative, data-centric approaches. Beyond promoting statistical excellence, the Mini-Hackathon 2025 also seeks to raise public awareness of data-driven solutions and their impact on society.
The event is open to undergraduates from both state and private universities in Sri Lanka and Universiti Malaya. It will be conducted in a semi-virtual format featuring multiple engaging phases.

- Registration Period: October 19 – November 14
- Introductory Webinar: November 15 (Virtual Session)
- Preliminary Round: November 16 (Online – via Kaggle)
- Shortlist Announcement: November 18 (Online)
- Analytics Bootcamp: November 19 (Virtual Session)
- Final Round: November 23 (Onsite – University of Colombo & Universiti Malaya)
- Award Ceremony: November 25 (During ICDS 2025)
This initiative mainly aims at addressing the growing need for skilled statisticians by providing a platform for the emerging talent to enhance their data analysis capabilities, learn valuable programming skills, and engage in problem-solving through data-driven approaches. Going beyond just elevating the quality of statistical insight, the Mini Hackathon 2025 is a platform to improve public exposure to data data-driven solutions.
