Postgraduate Convocation, 2017 was held at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall on 12th and 13th of November, 2018 for the conferment of Post Graduate Degrees of University of Colombo. The Chancellor Most Reverend Dr. Oswald Gomis, the Vice-Chancellor Senior Professor Lakshman Dissanayake, the Rector of Sri Palee Campus, Deans of the Faculties, Directors of institutes, the heads of departments, the registrar, Academic & non-academic members were present in this occasion.
37 postgraduate diplomas were awarded to Faculty of Science Postgraduate diploma completers in the first session of the Day 01.
Masters degrees were conferred as follows to Faculty of Science Master of Science degree completers.

Also in the Convocation Ceremony, Professor K.M.Nalin De Silva was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Award for the research excellence in 2017.
The citation is following.
“He is a Senior Professor in Chemistry. He obtained a B.Sc. First Class in Chemistry from University of Colombo and Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. He has gained postdoctoral experience from University of Cambridge and Louisiana State University, USA. He was promoted to the post of Professor in 2005 at the age of 39. He is also the Science Team Leader of Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology. He has established a collaboration with University College London, UK, funded by the Royal Society and Engineering and Physical Research Council, UK. His research group has raised Rs. 70 Million including an NRC Mega grant, Rs. 48.5 Million during last two years. He initiated the center for advanced materials and devices in 2018 through Rs. 14 Million funding from the University of Colombo. He has supervised 140 undergraduates and 30 postgraduates and the present research group consists of 12 Ph.D. students, 6 undergraduates, and 4 MSc students. He has published 80 peer-reviewed SCI papers averaging 10 indexed papers per year during the last four years. His h-index is 17. He has filed four Patents in the USA. Two of his patents in SLINTEC have already been sold to MAS and LANKEM for commercialization. In addition two of his other innovations have resulted in commercialization with Textured Jersey and British Cosmetics. He won seven Presidential Research Awards and a National Research Award. He was also named as the ‘Young Scientist of the Year’ by The World Academy of Science.”
