Our Vision for you
Master of Science (Research) (Equivalent to Level 10 of the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework)
To produce scholarly, innovative, professional graduates with an advanced knowledge in a chosen field of study capable of conducting research to generate and disseminate knowledge that is nationally and regionally relevant, and congruent with international quality standards, thus being competitive, and having professional, managerial, administrative and technological capacities to undertake on higher degrees and professional employment.
Master of Science (Equivalent to Level 09 of the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework)
To produce scholarly, innovative, professional graduates with knowledge and capability for applying acquired skills relevant to the specific field of study, and having professional, managerial, administrative and technological capacities to undertake higher degrees and professional employment.
A majority of the courses are delivered by qualified, foreign-trained and experienced faculty members, while leading external experts are brought in to enrich the study programs. Research is conducted under the close supervision and guidance of the academic staff who are well versed in cutting edge technologies and recent advances in their respective fields. Many academics have published extensively and are key personalities both locally and internationally.
Aptly Designed Curricula
Our programs have well-designed multidisciplinary curricula that encompass a diverse array of fields, and closely link both theory and practice. The courses aim to provide knowledge, insight and skills required to understand and solve critical global issues and fulfill national needs. Research degrees are intended to impart sound scientific knowledge and develop analytical skills to attain a high standard of professionalism and scholarship. Students are urged to embark on research projects that are novel, innovative, timely and intellectually challenging.

Research has always been a focal point of the postgraduate programs we offer. Students are urged to embark on research projects that are novel, innovative, timely and intellectually challenges through multidisciplinary research. We disseminate our research through well cited national and international publications. Students and staff have secured many awards and accolades and have led to wide ranging impacts on industry, society, economy and the environment.
Local and Foreign Partnerships
Many faculty members have established collaborative research programmes with overseas universities and have strong links with national research organizations through which they contribute to national development. Several academics act as resource persons, consultants and board members in many government and non-government organizations. These links provide ample opportunities for collaborative work often facilitating foreign exposure.
Enhancing of Soft Skills
The programs offered by the faculty are also designed to enhance the inter-personal skills and higher-order thinking skills of postgraduate students. Many opportunities are available for students to participate in academic and group discussions and to make oral and written presentations at local or international fora, particularly to disseminate research findings. The frequent postgraduate review sessions of the faculty provide a forum for students to obtain constructive feedback from a wide audience.

How programs are structured ?
MSc programs typically comprise three components giving flexibility to what you might chose to do given your time constraints.
- Theory, Laboratory & Fieldwork (25 Credits)
- Equivalent to the Postgraduate Diploma (generally a fallback option)
- Independent Learning (5 Credits)
- Parts I & II is equivalent to the MSc
- Research Component (30 Credits)
- Parts I, II & III is equivalent to the MSc (Res) (SLQF Level 10)
