Electrochemistry and Photochemistry
Designing and development of fluorescence sensors for trace metal analysis is one of the key areas in photochemistry. Many sensors based on metal binding ligands have been developed. Ongoing electrochemical research is based mainly on the applications of conducting polymers(CPs). Gas sensors are developed with CPs as they offer great design flexibility and the characteristics are studied with the use of conductimetry. Potentiometric ion detecting sensors based on CPs are studied as well.

Theoretical and Computational Chemistry
Several academics in the field of theory and computation are involved in a wide range of research topics such as charge transfer rates in bichromophoric molecules, stability of metal binding ligands in different solvent environments, development of molecular mechanics force fields, stability and dynamics of gas phase clusters and dynamics of molecular penetration through cell boundary. They use molecular simulation methods such as molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo and quantum mechanical methods in their research work.
