The Faculty of Science successfully conducted its 4th Annual Planning Workshop on April 28th, 2023 at the Auditorium of the Information Learning Centre, Faculty of Science. The main objective of the workshop was to review activities proposed at the 3rd Annual Planning Workshop (held on April 29th, 2022) and develop an Action Plan for the coming year. The discussions centred on key areas of interest that had been previously identified at the faculty level. The Coordinators worked with their relevant committees prior to the workshop, and presented the current status of these key areas along with future expectations. Issues and challenges were also identified and presented with possible solutions and viable implementation plans. In items that were continued from last year, progress was also presented. The 07 key areas presented in 2023 were:

5. ITSC and Development of IT related Activities – Dr Hiran Jayaweera, Director | ITSC

7. Students support programs – Prof Sampath Seneviratne, Permanent Student Counsellor, FoS

The workshop was well attended by the Faculty members and provided an opportunity for members to collectively discuss the future plans of the Faculty.
The certificate awarding ceremony of the Faculty Awards (2021) for Research Excellence and Academic Outreach & Institutional Development was also held at this event.
As a new initiative, participant feedback was obtained in a paperless mode by using a student response system (clicker response system).

The Annual Planning Workshop was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the FoS.

The 2nd Non-academic Annual Planning Workshop of the Faculty of Science was held on 12th May, 2023 at the Auditorium of the Information Learning Centre, Faculty of Science (FoS).

The day’s proceedings commenced with Mr Kamal Dissanayake (member, NA-SDC) providing a Review of the progress of the year 2022. This was followed by the Dean of the FoS, Prof Upul Sonnadara providing an Overview of the Faculty and the Chairperson QA Cell FoS, Dr. Iroja Caldera presenting the Objectives of the Planning Workshop.

The main objective of the workshop was to review progress from the 1st non-academic Annual Planning Workshop (held on 22nd April, 2022) and discuss activities for the coming year. Groups of non-academic staff members from across departments worked on activity plans prior to the workshop and presented their progress and future implementation plans. The discussions centred on presentations on community service (by Mr. Buddika Jayawardane), skill development (by Mrs Chithra Jayasooriya), social activities (Mr Kasun Nanayakkara) and the introduction of an employee appreciation award for non-academic staff members (by Mrs. Anula Malporu). The Non-academic Staff Development Committee (NA-SDC) played a key role in facilitating the said activities and the former Chairperson of the NA-SDC, Prof IMK Fernando also addressed the gathering.

Participant feedback for the event was obtained in a paperless mode by using a student response system (clicker response system).
The event was well attended and generated lively discussion.
