To equip non-biologists with essential knowledge of biological principles, including the structure and function of living organisms, evolutionary theory, and ecological interactions, enabling them to apply biological understanding in environmentally related careers and interdisciplinary fields.
Learning Outcomes
Gaining the ability to;
- demonstrate broad knowledge in the fundamental principles and theories of biology
- describe plant and animal adaptations for different functions
- describe theories that drive evolution
- critically analyse the impact of humans on the environment

- Cell Biology and Genetics (Biological molecules; cells and tissues; inheritance; genes,
chromosomes, and DNA) - Plant and Animal Form and Function (Structure of plants; plant nutrition, transport, and
adaptation to stress; gas exchange and circulation in animals; innate defences and the
immune system in animals; animal behaviour) - Evolution and Ecology (Evolving life (phylogeny); mechanisms of evolution; population
ecology; living in communities; ecosystems; human impacts on ecology)
