The MSc in Environmental Science offered by the Department of Zoology and Environment Sciences, University of Colombo, is a two-year postgraduate degree (SLQE Level 9) program compromising of both e-learning and conventional mode of delivery courses.

Eligibility

BSc degree in any of the following fields: Biological Sciences, Forestry & Environmental Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Physical Sciences or any other relevant field, obtained from a UGC approved university
OR
Equivalent qualification/s acceptable to the senate of the University of Colombo.

Course Fees

Local students: LKR 200,000/-

International students: USD 4000 SAARC countries / USD 8000 Non SAARC countries

Application Fee: LKR 1000/- (USD 50)

Registration Fee: LKR 2500/-
Library Fee: LKR 2500/-
Library deposit (refundable): LKR 5000/-
(LKR 2,500/= per card)
Course Fee: LKR 200,000/- (Course fee is subjected to change)

*The course fee can be paid as two installments within 2 years

Installments I: The first installment of LKR 150,000/= should be paid at the beginning of the course for the first three semesters.
Installment II: LKR 50,000/= (payable at the commencement of mini-project)

Course Duration

PG Dip 1 and half years, MSc 2 Years

Part I: Semester I-III, course duration 18 months
Part II: Mini project, 6 months

A candidates studentship will expire at the end of 60 months from the date of registration.

Programme Structure

MSc in Environmental Sciences is a 2-year part-time study programme designed to cater to a wide range of interested persons such as biologist, chemists, mathematicians, economists, engineers, geographers and sociologists, among others.

The programme takes on a multidisciplinary approach and hence will give students a wide range of a basic and applied knowledge and skills, enabling them to adopt a holistic approach to environmental problems solving, which increase employment opportunities in a wide range of fields.

Further the programme provides many modules on-line, allowing students to study at their own pace and during non-working hours

Lectures and laboratory sessions conducted on Friday (4 to 6 pm) and Saturdays. Some field work will conduct on Sundays as well.
