Offered by the Department of Chemistry
BSc Honours degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is an interdisciplinary programme that connects the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, chemistry and their mutual interfaces. This degree programme provides an excellent platform for students who are interested in the molecular basis of biological phenomena to enhance their knowledge and skills thus enabling the opportunities to pursue careers in both academic and co-operative sectors related to the medical, veterinary, marine and agricultural fields. The degree is awarded upon the completion of a minimum of 120 credit hours in related subjects. During the final two years, students have to follow a series of specialized core courses in related areas of biochemistry and molecular biology. It is compulsory for each student to carry out a research project which focuses on a problem related above mentioned fields during their final undergraduate year. At the end of the final year, students are expected to submit a dissertation and defend their research outputs in front of a panel of academics.
Degree Aims
- Aims to give a better understanding and a wide knowledge on naturally occurring biological phenomena at the molecular level
- Focuses on providing a sound and updated knowledge in both theoretical and practical aspects of biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, chemistry etc.
- To develop fundamental skills required in conducting research projects and in presenting their research project.
- To develop skills required to work in Biotechnology related industries
