Celebration of the 500th Faculty Board Meeting – Faculty of Science
The Faculty of Science marked a significant milestone by celebrating its 500th Faculty Board Meeting on 4th March 2025. This historic occasion reflected the faculty’s commitment to academic and administrative excellence over the past 100 years.
The Faculty Board meeting commenced at 5:00 p.m. after taking a photograph. Senior Prof. DUJ Sonnadara, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, presented an overview with historic photographs of the faculty, showcasing its development and achievements.
Following the meeting, a tree-planting ceremony took place at 6:15 p.m., led by the Dean. This symbolic act represented growth, sustainability, and the faculty’s ongoing pursuit of knowledge and innovation.
To celebrate this special occasion, a dinner was organized with the participation of the Vice chancellor, Senior Prof. HD Karunaratne. This event provided an opportunity for members to celebrate faculty achievements in a warm and engaging atmosphere. Retired professors of the faculty, who had retired since 2020, were also invited to the dinner, further enriching the occasion.
The evening commenced with a ceremonial cake-cutting, symbolizing the faculty’s journey, dedication, and progress over the years.
