Medical imaging technologists are central to modern healthcare across the globe, working at the intersection of medicine, physics, and advanced technology. The MSc in Medical Imaging Science is tailored for medical imaging technologists worldwide, offering advanced theoretical knowledge, clinical insight, and research training to support professional growth, leadership, and innovation in medical imaging practice
Mode of Delivery
- Lectures: Online/Hybrid
- Examinations: On-site (written papers)
- Practical Modules: Assessed through portfolio-based evaluation
Eligibility
Applicants must satisfy one of the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s degree (SLQF Level 6 or above) in Medical Imaging Technology / Radiography from a recognized university,
or - A professional qualification equivalent to SLQF Level 6 or above in Medical Imaging Technology / Radiography acceptable to the Senate of the University of Colombo.
Admission Criteria
- Selection is based on academic qualifications, professional experience and performance at an interview
- Maximum intake: 50 students per intake
(NOTE: Preference will be given to candidates currently working in CT/MRI or in a hospital with access to supervised professional practice in CT/MRI.)
Course Fees
Local Students :
LKR 550,000 (Total programme fee)
International Students :
SAARC Countries: USD 5,000
Non-SAARC Countries: USD 7,000
The course fee is payable as a lump sum. Eligible students may apply for student loan facilities available through approved banks.
Programme Structure
The MSc in Medical Imaging Science is a two-year postgraduate programme with a total of 30 credits, designed in accordance with the postgraduate regulations of the Faculty of Science.

- Independent Research Project: 5 credits
