Official Opening of the Student Service Centre Building
The Student Service Centre (SSC) building was officially inaugurated on March 4, 2025, by the Vice Chancellor with the unveiling of a plaque located at the entrance to the building on the ground floor. This event was further enriched by student performances, including dance and singing, adding a lively and celebratory atmosphere to the occasion.
As part of a broader development initiative, the Faculty of Science was fortunate to receive three new buildings: the ILC Building, the DST Building, and the SSC Building. The ILC and DST buildings were inaugurated in 2021. Due to the Covid pandemic, construction of the SSC building was delayed.
Addressing the gathering, Senior Prof. D.U.J. Sonnadara, Dean of the Faculty of Science, extended his gratitude to Prof. T.R. Ariyaratne for his role in conceptualizing and developing the initial proposal for the SSC building during his tenure as Dean. He emphasized the importance of preserving the existing buildings, since no new infrastructure development will take place during the next five years.
The former Dean of the Faculty of Science, Senior Prof. K.R.R. Mahanama, also spoke at the event, describing the journey from its inception to its completion. Senior Prof. H.D. Karunaratne focused on the importance of managing and utilizing these assets in his talk.
All individuals who contributed to the establishment of the SSC were acknowledged and appreciated for their efforts in making this initiative a reality.
