Photo Contest 2026: Celebrating Campus Life through the Lens
Photo Contest 2026 was a vibrant celebration of creativity and visual storytelling at the University of Colombo, organized by the Career Guidance Unit of the Faculty of Science under the EC 2004 Photography Course offered by the Faculty. The event provided undergraduates with a unique platform to capture and reflect on campus life through photography.
Inspired by the theme “Through the Lens – Capture Your Campus Experience,” the competition invited students to creatively portray the beauty, emotions, and everyday moments of university life. Open exclusively to undergraduates of the University of Colombo, the contest attracted over 250 submissions from the Faculties of Science, Technology, Management and Finance, Law, and Arts. A professional judging panel shortlisted the best 80 photographs for exhibition.
The exhibition was held on 29th and 30th January 2026 at the Ground Floor Auditorium of the Department of Statistics, Faculty of Science. The opening ceremony on 29th January was graced by Senior Professor Upul Sonnadara, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Professor Dilushan Jayasundara, Co-Director of the Career Guidance Unit.
The award ceremony, held at the SSC Auditorium, was honoured by the presence of Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, as the Chief Guest, with Surgeon Rear Admiral Lalith Ekanayake delivering the keynote address. The winners were announced as follows:
1st Place – S.M. Ometh Ransana (Faculty of Science), Theme: The Preparation;
2nd Place – Mushthaq Farzan (Faculty of Science), Theme: One Voice, Many Hearts;
3rd Place – T. W. Himal Rasanjana (Faculty of Science), Theme: The Geometry of Ambition.
In addition, 12 Merit Awards were presented to outstanding submissions among the exhibited photographs.

More than a competition, Photo Contest 2026 emerged as a meaningful platform that encouraged students to view their surroundings from new perspectives, appreciate the power of visual storytelling, and celebrate shared university experiences making it a memorable highlight of the academic year.
