BSc Honours in Nuclear Medical Science
Offered by the Department of Nuclear Science
The main objective of the programme is to provide knowledge and practical skills in Nuclear Medical Science. Nuclear medicine has become quite popular in various medical applications such as medical diagnosis and treatments. In Nuclear Medical Science degree covers the scientific background of nuclear medicine which include nuclear medicine related instrumentation, diagnostic and radiotherapeutic physics, health physics, medical ethics and medical statistics. During the final year the students will have clinical practice in a relevant institute or a hospital where they acquire to carry out a research project related to the field which enables the student to combine the theory with case studies.
Scopes of this degree program is to produce graduates with sound knowledge of Nuclear Medical Science while promoting research and developments on nuclear medicine, radiobiology and medical physics in Sri Lanka. In addition, this degree will provide the basic knowledge and skills for those who plan for postgraduate degrees on medical physics and nuclear sciences.
Degree Aims
- Explain the theories of nuclear science and apply nuclear science related applications
- Discuss the advantages and limitations of nuclear medicine applications
- Apply the knowledge of nuclear medical science to solve current health and medicare issues
