The Annual Planning Workshop 2025

The Faculty of Science conducted its 6th Annual Planning Workshop on April 25th, 2025, at the Barn House Studio, Panadura. Around 74 academics and administrative staff members participated in the Annual Planning Workshop 2025. The panel reviewers this year consisted of 2 members: Senior Professor K. R. Mahanama and retired Professor, Dr. Sujatha Hewage.

The day’s proceedings commenced with an overview by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, followed by a presentation from the Chairperson of the Quality Assurance Cell, who outlined the objectives and background of the workshop. Marking a special milestone, this year’s workshop was held outside university premises for the first time. A revised structure was also introduced to better facilitate discussions on new initiatives.

The primary focus of the workshop was to evaluate progress and future plans across several key areas identified at the faculty level. Coordinators collaborated with their respective committees to present updates and expectations.

External Degree & Extension Programmes – Prof. Dharshana L. Weerawarne (Director, Open Distance Learning Centre)
Staff Welfare – Prof. Thusitha Abeythunge

The afternoon session included a special address by Senior Professor Devaka Weerakoon, who highlighted the importance of annual planning in setting clear objectives and aligning stakeholder efforts to ensure effective implementation. In addition, the workshop featured a special segment recognizing excellence, during which certificates were presented to the recipients of the Faculty Awards for Research Excellence and Academic Outreach & Institutional Development for the academic years 2023 and 2024.

The Annual Planning Workshop was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the Faculty of Science.
