CTBR logo based on the Akan symbol Nyansapo

Nyansapo is also known as the wisdom knot used by Akans as the Symbol of wisdom, ingenuity, intelligence and patience. This symbol conveys the idea that “a wise person has the capacity to choose the best means to attain a goal. Being wise implies broad knowledge, learning and experience, and the ability to apply such faculties to practical ends." Logo is coloured in 8 colours of biotech covering all the 8 areas of biotech. Representation of colours are as follows; red (medical/pharmaceutical), blue (aquatic: marine and fresh-water), green (agricultural), white (industrial), grey (environmental), yellow (nutritional), violet (patents and inventions), and gold (nanotechnology and bioinformatics).

To be a centre of excellence in transdisciplinary biotechnology research, training, and education in the Sri Lankan State University system

Mission:

To create opportunities for research, training, and education in biotechnology at the interface of multiple disciplines, in order to drive innovation in biotechnology

Objectives

  • To enhance/encourage university wide interdisciplinary biotech research programs
  • To build strong, strategic partnerships with research institutions, biotech-based
    industries and other higher education institutions
  • To disseminate knowledge in biotechnology via short courses, workshops, seminars, symposia, conferences etc.
  • To generate income by undertaking biotech related services, service-based research, and providing laboratory training for relevant sectors
  • To drive biotechnology innovations for the benefit of society and the environment
