            The Leo Club of the University of Colombo, Faculty of Science, is a youth organization that serves as a source of hope and empowerment for young individuals aged 12-30. It was established in 2016 and has been nurturing future leaders ever since. The club is sponsored by the Lions Club of Wellawatta and is affiliated with Leo District 306 A1 of Leo Multiple District 306. It embodies the principles of leadership, experience, and opportunity, and is committed to helping young individuals develop their potential to the fullest. Under the guidance of their Faculty Advisor, Dr. Ayomi Witharana, and Leo Advisor, Lion Chiman Amalean, the Leo Club of the University of Colombo, Faculty of Science has successfully completed nine years of service and impact.

        The club’s mission is to serve the world while fostering personal growth and leadership development. They are committed to creating a better tomorrow for everyone, engaging in diverse projects such as seminars for O/L and A/L students, donations to the needy, environmental clean-ups, and awareness sessions.The Leo Club of the University of Colombo, Faculty of Science, is dedicated to serving the community and developing leadership skills in its members. They embody the values of true Leoism and strive for a brighter future for all within their community and beyond. The club is proud of its accomplishments and looks forward to continuing its service to society.

In a typical leostic year, the Leo Club of the University of Colombo Faculty of Science carries out around 30 projects, all dedicated to serving the community. Some of their standout initiatives include:

1. Kalana


       “Kalana," an initiative by the Leo Club of the University of Colombo, Faculty of Science, aims to foster connections and understanding between the Leo Club and the diverse communities it serves. Celebrating the cultural richness of our nation, including the Sinhalese, Hindus, Muslims, and Burgers, “Kalana" seeks to promote unity through the exploration of dance and music traditions. Through effective communication and community engagement, the project endeavors to build lasting relationships and mutual respect.

2. Sipsara


       Sipsara is an impactful project that strives to provide quality education to schools across Sri Lanka. It serves as a beacon of hope for schools that lack resources, by providing them with the necessary support to uplift the education system in the country. It's main goal is to motivate and inspire students, instilling in them a growth mindset that will help them excel academically. The project achieves this through interactive sessions that are designed to cultivate a love for learning among students. The project's efforts have a tangible impact on the lives of both students and educators, making it a remarkable initiative that is changing the education landscape in the country.

3. League of leos


       “League of Leos" is a community project that aims to improve leadership and sportsmanship through a softball tournament. The project encourages teamwork, camaraderie, and healthy competition among all participants.

       By creating a supportive and inclusive environment, the project empowers indivduals to take on leadership roles and build valuable life skills such as communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.Apart from promoting leadership and sportsmanship, it also extends its impact to support other communities through various initiatives which also includes donation of sports equipments and awaraness sessions on sports health.

4. Shilpa savi


       “Shilpasavi" is dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities for children enrolled in rural schools, especially those who are struggling financially. The project strives to uplift communities and assist students in their academic endeavors through measures like supplying educational materials and collecting donations for school supplies. By prioritizing education, “Shilpasavi" creates a path towards a promising future for all children.

5. Splendora


       The “Splendora" project aims to promote sustainable practices and empower communities to take responsibility for the environment. The project's primary objective is to restore natural landmarks like Nalagana Falls, which has been adversely affected by human activities. It also focuses on promoting energy conservation through innovative and practical solutions to reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint, with the goal of creating a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.
