Euphony
The choir of the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo
The choir of the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo was initiated in 2018 as a group of individuals who are extremely passionate in music and has carried out many projects in this short time period with a view of redefining music.
Even though Euphony is a fairly new club, we have had a remarkable number of achievements in the past few years and wish to further expand and improve our capabilities.
In 2018, Euphony became the Champions at the Inter-University Talent Competition, “Chathurmaana” organized by the University of Sri Jayawardenapura and in 2019 was placed first in the Most Popular category at the same.
Within the two short years we have been active as a club, two choral arrangements were created; “Api sanasille” and “Maatha” which were released on our YouTube channel which now has a broad base of followers.
Our another accomplishment was the video launch of “Maatha” held at the New Arts Theatre in the presence of the University Vice Chancellor, Senior Professor Chandrika N Wijeyaratne, Dean Faculty of Science, Professor K.R.R. Mahanama and special guests Mr. Bathiya Jayakody, one of the original creators and Mr. Dilantha Malagamuwa. In fact, our attempt at paying tribute to the protective shields of our motherland was appreciated by all; we were provided with the privilege of uploading our achievements on the UOC website upon the Vice Chancellor’s advice.
Euphony also has had a few team building programs for its members and were fortunate to have Mr. Thumindu Dodantenna to conduct one of them.
Thereby it is evident that we have taken the concept of “singing” to a whole new level and wish to do many great things in the near future. To make this a reality, we would be needing a much broader base of members and the Orientation for the new intake to the Faculty of Science 2020 would be the ideal platform for the expansion of our club.
