Laboratory Skill Training Workshop Series

“The Laboratory Skill Training Workshops in Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Plant Science – 2023" was organized by the Skill Development sub-committee (2023) of the Non-academic staff development committee. These workshops aimed to provide an immersive learning experience for participants from diverse scientific backgrounds, delving into the intricacies of laboratory skills and techniques. Approximately 70 non-academic staff members actively participated in this enlightening series, contributing to the collaborative learning environment and showcasing a shared commitment to advancing their scientific skills.

1. Zoology Workshop – April 4, 2023:

The inaugural workshop held at the Department of Zoology and Environment Science delved into the intricacies of “How to react to some mediators on smooth muscles in the Mammalian body." Mr. J. R. A. C. Jayakody guided participants through practical applications, providing valuable insights.

2. Chemistry Workshop – October 25, 2023:

Taking place at the Department of Chemistry, the second workshop covered essential topics such as the “Introduction of Chemicals & Safety in the Labs" and “How to Use Laboratory Instruments & Maintenance" Dr. Neranga Abesinghe and Dr. Dinesh Athuluwage shared their expertise, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.

3. Plant Science Workshop – October 26, 2023:

Focusing on the “Operating & Maintaining of Light Microscope" the workshop at the Department of Plant Sciences saw the participation of Mr. Dimuthu Indaka and Mrs. Rangika Maddumage as resource persons. The session provided hands-on experience, fostering a deeper understanding of microscopy techniques.

4. Physics Workshop – November 1, 2023:

Concluding the series at the Department of Physics, the final workshop enlightened participants on the “Handling of a Digital Multimeter." Mrs. Chithra Jayasuriya demonstrated the nuances of using this essential tool in scientific  experiments.
