Introduction
ELISA is a sensitive immunological technique widely used as a diagnostic tool in medicine, veterinary science, plant pathology, biotechnology, food science, toxicology etc. as well as a quality control check in various industries. This is a versatile tool in many areas of research.
Course Objectives
To provide sound theory and hands-on practical knowledge on ELISA techniques and on establishing ELISA.
Minimum entry requirement
- GCE Advanced Level in Biological Sciences/ Technology (at least pending results)

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course participants will be able to:
- understand the importance of antigen-antibody reactions in disease diagnosis.
- comprehend the basic principles of Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA).
- gain knowledge on different types of ELISA techniques.
- acquire skills to perform indirect/sandwich/competitive ELISAs to detect antibodies/ antigens in the test sample.
- learn how to establish an indirect ELISA.

Week 1: Introductory session on Antigen-antibody interactions Indirect ELISA
Week 2: Sandwich ELISA
Week 3: Competitive ELISA
Weeks 4 – 5: Establishment of ELISA

30h (6h x 5 Saturdays) starting on 12 August and continuing through 9 September, 2023 from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm
