Exploring the Mysteries of the Universe: Inspiring STEAM Education

The Astronomy and Space Science Unit of the Department of Physics together with the Astronomical Society of the University of Colombo, participated in an event organized by the Ministry of Education. This national program, tailored for A/L students (Grade 12) representing all provinces and facilitated by the National Science Foundation (NFS), National Institute of Education (NIE) and National College of Education (NCoE), aims to motivate and create interest in students to follow STEAM subjects’ streams.

The Astronomy and Space Sciences session of the program took place on 13 th October 2023 in Colombo and was graced by the expertise of two distinguished individuals, Professor Chandana Jayaratne and Dr. Janaka Adassuriya. The event welcomed over 500 school students representing all 25 districts of Sri Lanka. Together, participants explored the fascinating realms of stars, using telescopes to unveil the secrets of the night sky, and embarked on a cosmic adventure by mapping constellations.
