The Faculty of Science successfully organized its 5th Annual Planning Workshop on April 26th, 2024, at the Auditorium of the Information Learning Centre, Faculty of Science. The primary objective of the workshop was to review the actions proposed during the 4th Annual Planning Workshop (held on April 28th, 2023), discuss new activities and develop an Action Plan for the upcoming year. Discussions revolved around key areas previously identified at the faculty level.

The four key areas presented in 2024 were:

1. Undergraduate Degree Programmes – Dr. Dilhari Attygalle, Director of Undergraduate Studies
2. MSc/Postgraduate Programmes – Prof. Chandima Tilakaratne, Director of Postgraduate Studies
3. Development of External Degree & Extension Programmes – Dr. Dharshana L Weerawarne, Director of Open Distance Learning Centre
4. ITSC and Development of IT-related Activities – Prof. Hiran Jayaweera, Director of ITSC

Coordinators collaborated with their respective committees to present the current status of these key areas alongside future expectations. This year, based on feedback received in previous years, a group work exercise was conducted in the morning session, leading to greater engagement of faculty members during the workshop. Issues and challenges were identified and presented during the afternoon session, along with potential solutions and implementation plans. Progress on items continued from the previous year was also shared. There were five moderators at this year’s session – three academics and two from the industry: Prof. TR Ariyaratne, Prof. DN De Silva, Prof. K R Ranjith Mahanama, Mrs Isha Wijeyeratnam, and Dr Naveen Gunawardane. Overall, the workshop saw active participation from Faculty members, providing a platform for collective discussion on the Faculty's future plans. The Vice-Chancellor Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne joined the event in the afternoon and addressed the Faculty. He also awarded the certificates to the recipients of the Faculty Awards (2022) for Research Excellence and Academic Outreach & Institutional Development.

The Annual Planning Workshop was organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the FoS with the Staff Training sub-committee of the IQAC handling the main tasks.
